Proper Scalp Preparation Instructions

Does your hair system bond break down earlier than you’d like? No matter how strong your hairpiece tape or adhesive is, it won’t stay strong or last as long as it could if you cleaned and properly prepared your scalp first. In fact, even 1 part per million of adhesive residue that’s unknowingly left behind on your head before attachment will prematurely eat away at your bond!Scared yet? Don’t be. Here’s an easy way to ensure your head will be ready…

Step One: Removing Adhesive Residue

Begin by wiping all visible traces of hairpiece adhesive residue from your scalp with a wet towel or cloth. Using a paper towel and adhesive remover rub vigorously until your scalp is clear of any residue.

Step Two: Wash Your Entire Head

Next, hop into the shower and wash your entire head, hair and scalp thoroughly at least two times. While showering, thoroughly scrub your scalp and hair with exfoliating scalp scrub(we recommend using an exfoliating glove, too). Rinse and repeat 4-5 times. This will help ensure any trace of hairpiece adhesive residue is completely eliminated.

Step Three: Dry Your Head

After showering, be sure to fully dry your head and scalp with a towel and/or blow dryer, removing all excess moisture. This would also be a good time to remove or shave any hair or stubble from the bonding area. We recommend using an electric screen razor for the closest shave.

Step Four: Applying Waterproof Sealant

Last, we highly recommend applying a layer of waterproof sealant, such as our Scalp Prep, to your skin. This will help protect your skin as well as encourage adhesion with the toupee tape or adhesive. (Allow the Scalp Prep to completely dry before attaching your hair system.) After you have completed the scalp preparation, and only after, you will then be ready to attach your hair system!
